Chelmsford Homeless Emergency Support Scheme (C.H.E.S.S)
Who are the Homeless?
Anyone could be homeless through any of the following:-

Redundancy, Home repossession, a broken marriage, prolonged unemployment, mental illness, institutional care from childhood, no support from family and friends, violence, abuse etc

Aims of the Project

  • To provide shelter when people become homeless in the Chelmsford Area
  • To provide a temporary home for people who cannot be housed immediately, or those who have no legal right to be housed.
  • To provide accommodation for eight people and include an evening meal and breakfast.
  • Guests allowed to stay up to 28 days while they are helped to find a more permanent home.
  • To act as a bridge between the homeless and the official agencies.

Volunteers

Whilst some staff are paid employees, the shelter would not function without the support of volunteers.

This valuable band of people help with cooking meals, washing the shelters laundry, befriending guests and sleeping on the premises during the night.
